7th Week of the National Institute of Chemistry
The 7th week of the National Institute of Chemistry will take place at the beginning of June, more precisely between June 6 and 10, 2022, at which time our research institution will open its doors to professionals and the general public. We are preparing a series of interesting lectures and tables, the most curious will be able to take a look inside our laboratories and learn about the life of researchers, and the youngest will be attracted by interesting and entertaining workshops.
Lectures and Roundtables
You will be able to listen to last year's Pregl Award winners, Prof. Dr. Kristina Gruden and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaž Likozar, during the expert lectures. Prof. Dr. Michael S. Silverstein will speak as part of the Pregl Colloquium, and Dr. Anja Kopač Lautar will speak as part of the Forum40 lectures.
The general public will be interested in the discussion entitled Antikythera, the Ancient View of Space. Prof. Dr. Jure Zupan, together with Dr. Andrej Gaspari, Head of the Department of Archeology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and our colleague Dr. Drejc Kopač, will discuss not only past and present knowledge about the universe, but also the inevitable connection between different scientific disciplines. The interlocutors will also address the modern research infrastructure that researchers need.
The lecture by our internationally renowned photographer Arne Hodalič, entitled Science and Photography, will also be inspiring.
At the three roundtables, you will be able to follow the discussion on the importance of the new Scientific Research and Innovation Activities Act, Slovenia's plans in the field of developing modern battery systems, and the guidelines for sustainable development.
Presentations, Workshops, Exhibition
On World Green Roof Day, June 6, we will present the plant treasures of the Institute's roof garden to the public in cooperation with the University Botanic Gardens Ljubljana. The green roof of the Pregl Research Center is a prime example of a replacement habitat for more than 40 autochthonous Slovenian plant species and thus a unique guardian of Slovenian biodiversity.
This year we are also preparing two fun workshops for the youngest: Molecular Candies and Super Experiments.
At the end of the week of the National Institute of Chemistry we will open an interesting art exhibition by Prof. Dr. Franc Solina.
New podcast episode
As part of the National Institute of Chemistry Week, we will also be releasing a special episode of the Institute's podcast, featuring Ivo Boscarol, founder of Pipistrel. In it, we will talk about the carbon-free and sustainable mobility of future generations, the future of electricity storage, the development of advanced battery systems, and the promising hydrogen technologies that are essential for future mobility. We will also discuss the many challenges of running a high-tech company and the opportunities for such companies in Slovenia.
Open door week
This week, our scientific research facility is also hosting an open house week. Each day we will prepare a guided tour of one of our laboratories according to a predetermined schedule. Registration is required for the tour, as the number of participants is limited.
