International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Today, February 11, is the 7th International Day of Women and Girls in Science. It is a day that was declared a special holiday by the United Nations through a resolution in 2015. This recognises the extremely important role of women and girls in science and technology.
On this important day, we prepared a presentation of the Gender Equality Plan for the staff of the National Institute of Chemistry. This document, adopted at the end of last year, contains a variety of measures to be implemented to ensure gender equality in employment and career advancement, gender balance in leadership and decision-making positions, opportunities for work-life balance, and the prevention of gender-based violence.
For many years, the National Institute of Chemistry has strived to create a stimulating, inclusive, and ethical research environment based on the principle of gender equality in science. Gender equality is not only one of the fundamental human rights, but also a prerequisite for a balanced society, and thus for a balanced scientific research community.
The plan for gender equality was presented in more detail by Prof. Dr. Simona Golič Grdadolnik, researcher and President of the Council for Equal Opportunities in Science at the National Institute of Chemistry.
The presentation is available HERE.
More about the Gender Equality Plan can be found HERE.
We wish the researchers success in their scientific work and especially that they inspire their younger colleagues and the girls who are just starting their research journey. We warmly congratulate all our colleagues on this International Day of Women and Girls in Science!
