Arne Hodalič: Science and photography
Title of the lecture: Science and photography
Lecturer: Arne Hodalič, http://www.arnehodalic.com
When and where: Thursday, June 9, 2022, 10.00 a.m., Great Lecture Hall (1st floor)
Abstract:
Photographing science or rather scientific research is a special challenge. We can say that science photography should also be done scientifically!
With digitalization, photography has become a bit easier, but just because of that, the requirements for this kind of photography have also increased a lot. Above all, it is necessary to create different lighting conditions than usual in laboratories, because they are usually uninteresting. In the lecture, Arne will take you into the world of light creation and photographic tricks that are not familiar to the average viewer. Therefore, a part of the lecture will be dedicated to the most modern methods of photographing smaller objects or enlargements, such as photostacking, stitching, a method called HDR (High Dynamic Range) and a few words about computer processing of already captured footage.
Arne says, "There is a lot of knowledge, creativity and most of all experience behind this work. The best thing about this kind of photography is that I dive into a different science every time, at least for a day. That's what's really fantastic about my job! "
So he promises us a journey through science photography, and most importantly he says that there is no listener who will not look at these photos, not to mention his research, in a different way.
