Prof. Dr. Roman Jerala has become a member of EMBO (Excellence in Life Science), the prestigious scientific organisation that brings together top scientists in the fields of life sciences

Ljubljana, 16 June 2017 – The EMBO is the most renowned international organisation in the field of molecular biology, which includes 1700 of the best European and global scientists in the fields of life sciences. Among them are 85 Nobel Prize laureates – and now also Prof. Dr. Roman Jerala, head of the biotechnology and molecular biology department at the National Institute of Chemistry.
The mission of EMBO, whose headquarters are situated in Heidelberg, Germany, is to establish a powerful European organisation that connects scientists in the fields of life sciences by systematically ensuring their connection and exchange of knowledge, research approaches and methods at the highest scientific level.
Upon his appointment, Prof. Dr. Roman Jerala stated the following: “The EMBO is a prestigious organisation in the field of molecular biology. They have invited me to give lectures at EMBO meetings all across the world on several occasions, and I hold many of its members in very high regard, therefore, I was pleased that they nominated and elected me as a member of their organisation. This appointment is an important confirmation and international acknowledgement of the scientific achievements of our research group.”

In the light of the National Institute of Chemistry week, Prof. Dr. Gregor Anderluh, Director of the Institute, said the following: “Our institute is deeply devoted to the mission of scientific excellence. We are working hard every day and we are focusing our intellectual strengths to ensure that this objective is integrated into all the projects of the National Institute of Chemistry. The institute has highly qualified teams lead by highly-qualified individuals, so this recognition of excellence that Prof. Dr. Roman Jerala received is also a confirmation for our institute. It means that our institute provides the right atmosphere and a positive research environment, in which ambitious scientists can find support. I am very pleased when this is reflected in such prestigious recognitions as the EMBO membership.
