For Clean Waters: Presentation of the TETHYS4ADRION Project in Tolmin

On Friday, 6 March 2026, Dr Andrej Kržan and Azra Kerić attended the event “For Clean Waters: Break the Habit, Not the Environment”, organized in Tolmin by the Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia as part of the TETHYS4ADRION project.

The event was divided into two parts. In the first part, held at the Tolmin Cinema Hall, Dr Andrej Kržan from the National Institute of Chemistry and Tine Bizjak (IWRS) presented the TETHYS4ADRION project. The programme also included an award ceremony for pupils of France Bevk Primary School who took part in the art competition, as well as a performance by two choirs from France Bevk Primary School.

The second part of the event took place at the confluence of the Tolminka and Soča rivers, where Jože Novak, Minister of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia, and Neža Kodre, Director of the Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia, released two GPS trackers into the Soča River. The purpose of the trackers is to simulate the path of waste from rivers to the sea, and the TETHYS4ADRION project partners will monitor their movement as the project continues.

A special feature of the trackers was that they were decorated with the two best drawings selected in the competition, which gave the event an additional symbolic dimension.

The event highlighted the importance of raising awareness about water protection, reducing waste in aquatic environments, and cooperation between research institutions, the local community, and young people.
