Prof. Mojca Benčina received Pregl Award in 2018 for outstanding scientific achievements
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mojca Menčina was awarded by Pregl Award in 2018for outstanding scientific achievements. The prize, named after the chemist and the Nobel Prize winner of Slovene origin, Friderik Pregl (1869 - 1930), is a recognition for outstanding achievements in the field of basic or applied research in the field of chemistry and related disciplines that are comparable and on the level of world topical achievements.
Prof. dr. Mojca Benčina researches in the fields of immunology, microbiology and synthetic biology. In the field of innate immunity, she researched the mechanism of activation of the TLR9, TLR5 and TLR3 receptors. Through her research she helped to understand the processes that contribute to the host defense mechanisms against the pathogen and to the understanding of the disease states associated with the activation of TLR receptors in humans. In the field of synthetic biology she participated in the development of logical operations in mammalian cells and genetically encoded sensors. She also works in sonogenetics, where she develops techniques of selective activation of mammalian cells with ultrasound. She published research findings of the past five years in 26 scientific articles in top scientific journals such as Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications and Nature Chemical Biology. Dr. Benčina is also co-author of four international patents.
Congratulations!
